Computers are now being used by recreation therapists to maintain quality improvement data on spreadsheets, to maintain data on clients,volunteers, and activities on a database, to communicate with colleagues via email and Internet, to save time with automated assessments, and to conduct treatment activities with clients.


Because of the volatile nature of computers/programs many of the software described below are no longer available.

Patsy Edwards, Constructive Leisure, 511 No. La Ciennega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. Developed an interest survey called LeisurePref for use on a variety of computers.

Dan Ferguson, CTRS,Ph.D., Teaches computer applications in TR at BYU. Published several articles on computers and TR. He also has presented workshops on computer applications and TR.

Tom Gushiken, CTRS, Ph.,D. is accumulating Internet resources for TR and has presented workshops on Internet & TR.

Marta Moser and Guy Moser, of Activity Management Systems, Inc. has developed the Activity Master. This program permits activity directors to maintain client data, attendance records, etc on the computer. Write AMS at Box 1222, The Dalles, Oregon 97058 for more info.

Rozanne W. Faulkner, CTRS, Leisure Enrichment Service, PO Box 1190, Seaside, Oregon 97138 ,(503) 738-6679. Has a computerized version of the TRI, but is no longer selling it as the paper version of the TRI has been updated but the computerized version has not been updated.

Mike Heil, CTRS of MORC, Recreation Therapy Dept. at 16200 Nineteen Mile Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038-1103 has developed a database program using Microsoft Access. With CARA (Computerized Activity Resource Assistant), Mike is able to maintain a data base of community leisure resources and use it to generate individualized reports for clients with specific interests. Mike is currently using the system at work. He may be distributing his program at a later date.

Roy Olsson, Jr., CTRS, Ph.D., . Has published articles on computer applications. Developed a scoring software for the LDB on Apple II. Software is not available for distribution or sale.

Irene Willis, MA, CTRS and her father have teamed to create CompuVerse. CompuVerse is a computer-aided communication system to assist individuals with communication disabilities. CompuVerse utilizes Windows, IBM or compatible with 386 or greater CPU.
