Bean Pole Race

Size: 7-10

Equipment: Bamboo poles, pole bean seeds, potting soil

Objective: To crown Queen or King Bean in the Facility as defined by whose bean grew to the top of the pole first.

Description: Class 1: The pole bean parts of growing are discussed relative to what a seed needs to grown. Participants are given small pots labeled with their name and they plant several beans in it. After they sprout several leaves each pot is taken to the garden and planted at the base of a bamboo pole which has been placed vertical deep into the ground. All poles are the same height. After a growing period, the one whose bean stalk has reached the top is celebrated as the Queen or King Bean of the Facility.
