Soap Carving

Size of Group: 2 to 6

Equipment: bars of soap and pen knives

Description: provide each participant with a bar of soap and a pen knife. Demonstrate proper use of the knife and be sure to discuss safety issues. You may want to have several sample carvings to show what's possible. Have several bars of soap per participant.

Self-esteem: some participants will give up quickly and need much encouragement. Before starting, discussion on self-esteem and that its "OK to fail" and that "people learn from mistakes" may be held.

Expected Outcome: leisure skill development, safety awareness, learning that one can make mistakes and learn from it.
