Activities & Tx Ideas to Enhance Perceived Control

Leader For a or a Life

submitted by Juan R. Castro Cintron of Hospital San Juan Capestrano

Size of Group: 4-15

Equipment: Chalk, blackboard, classroom materials or session related materials

Objective: The objective of the activity is to assist the client in feeling a sense of control.

Description: Each pt will select a profession, i.e., RT, OT, Social Worker, Nurse, House Keeping etc. To pts can select the same profession. After this they will spend time (a day or two) preparing their work and then they will perform their duty, i.e., RT can do a leisure awareness session, OT direct a gardening session, Nurse a session talking about why should we quit smoking etc.

Provide each client time to learn about the profession they chose. He/she can be matched up with an OT, nurse, etc and spent supervised time preparing for this session.

When all clients have completed their presentations, have a discussion about about responsibilities, how we can have the control of our lives, etc.
